  • The Woodland Project

Outdoor learning is very important to our children and we are always looking for ways to take learning outside the classroom, and utilise our outdoor space.

At Devonshire, we have created our very own enchanting Woodland area, tucked away at the tree-lined edge of the school field.  All children have the opportunity to take their learning outside the classroom and into the Woodland area.  Mrs Curtis, our woodland teacher, plans activities and challenges linked to the learning that the children are doing in class and for one term of the school year, they have a fortnightly lesson in the Woodland area.

Every session begins with a team challenge which requires the children to work together as a team to solve them. They will then complete a main activity which links to their in-class learning. Sessions are always practical, and the children use all of our 6Rs (our school values) to successfully complete them.

The children’s learning in the Woodland project is recorded in their class Woodland project book that travels through the school, with the class.
